THE FREEDOS BETA 8 H01 ("Nikita") DISTRIBUTION ERRATA Jeremy Davis 23 August 2002 15 September 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the errata file for the Beta8 H01 distribution. Any major problems or important updates for Beta8 will be posted in this file. Please read this file before reporting bugs against Beta8, to ensure that you are not reporting a problem that is already known. If you find a bug in the FreeDOS Beta8 H01 distribution, please do not email me directly. Instead, please post a bug in the FreeDOS Bugtrack database (please search for your bug first - try to avoid entering a duplicate bug.) See http://www.freedos.org/bugs/ MAY BE MIS-IDENTIFIED AS BUGS: * The included KERNEL is 2027TEST, this is a test kernel! You should update your kernel as soon as 2027 is released! Please remember Ripcord releases are NOT stable FreeDOS distributions, so do not use it unless you are willing to test or need/want latest available included programs. * Fat32 support is still considered EXPERIMENTAL, though it seems stable, many programs still do not support it or have only limited support for Fat32 partitions. * The GUI disk set only includes SEAL, which requires a 386+, mouse, and VGA or better. * The NET disk set is not included. * Xkeyb updated, I still need to ensure the list displayed during install corresponds with all available KEY files, i.e. some new KEY files may be present but not selectable. THINGS THAT ARE BROKEN: * Format included has limited/initial support for Fat32, so use with care. * XOSL in EXTRAS doesn't seem to install under VMWare * No others known at this time (other than those listed in bugtrack). PACKAGES TO UPDATE: * Kernel 2027 once released * Nasm 0.98.35 available (as of Sept 11, note: older 0.98 version may be required to assemble some include programs) * More (and perhaps a few other of Jim Hall's tools) updated translations Obtaining updates: - Unmodified packaes from original location as listed in LSM file See http://www.freedos.org/freedos/software/ - Copies are usually available on ibiblio (not always latest) See http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/ - Updated packages (since last official BETA) as available in latest distribution See http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/ripcord/upd-pkgs/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------
